The Halloween Capital Of The World Is In Minnesota
You don't have to travel far if you're wanting to go to the Halloween capital of the world. It's actually right here in Minnesota's own backyard. Anoka, Minnesota is known for their festive Halloween spirit.
According to the Anoka Halloween website, it all started around 1920 when the town was tired of youngsters playing mean spirited pranks every Halloween. Residents knew they needed to plan a big celebration that would keep the youth out of trouble and stop them from tipping cows and turning outhouse upside down.
So, they put together a Halloween committee, planned some events and the rest is history. In the 1930's the town would draw upwards of 20,000 people to their Halloween parade. Eventually, they brought their cause to Washington D.C. to be proclaimed the Halloween Capital of the World.
They'll be keeping tradition alive this year with many events planned throughout the month of October.
Events include a pumpkin weigh off, adult pumpkin carving contest, haunted house, pancake breakfast, Spooktacular Carnival, 5k, grand parade and more!
