The Best Waterfall Hike in Minnesota – It’s a “Must See”
I love to be able to hike around most anywhere in the United States. Checking out the state parks around the United States and experience what each of them has to offer is fun to do, if you are in an area with a great state park.
One of the best and scenic hikes that you can take is right here in Minnesota. This one is near a great waterfall.
This waterfall is not the biggest one, but it's where it is positioned that makes it so good. It's located on the Basswood/Dry Lake Loop which is North of Ely and near the Boundary Waters area in Superior National Forest.
Luckily, like any of the hiking trails in Minnesota, and in most hiking trail areas there are levels of difficulty. It all depends on your physical capabilities. It's nice to know ahead of time what you're in for. Then you can make a decision on what you will be able to do, not only physically, but also time-wise. How long will this take and am I up for it.
According to Only in Your State there are also some great rock formations along the trails, if you are interested in that.
There is also a bit of a warning if you want to climb down to see some of the cooler formations. Around the falls area there are apparently a lot of roots and small rocks that you will have to navigate through in order to get to them. In other words, just be careful around the falls area. Stop, take pictures, and be careful.
Note: Storm Damage Road Closure: As of June 2024, many areas in Superior National Forest remain closed or impassable due to storm damage. For more information, please visit: https://usfs-public.app.box.com/s/cymdco4b5j3jpjkm2puegkelazn2lvze
