The St. Cloud Tech boys soccer team defeated Willmar 3-0 Thursday night in the Section 8AA Final at St. Michael-Albertville High School. This is the 7th straight section championship for the Tigers and their 4th straight state tournament appearance.
The Class C and B State Amateur baseball tournaments start this weekend in Belle Plaine, Green Isle, Jordan and Shakopee. The lone St. Cloud area team playing in the Class B state tournament is the Cold Spring Springers. They will play the Minnetonka Monarchs Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Shakopee.
St. Cloud Post 76 advanced to the 3rd annual MN Legion State Championship game Sunday vs La Crescent with a 3-1 win over Upsala in the semifinals. Ella Voit threw 7 innings, gave up 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and had 16 strikeouts. Tayla Vought went 2-4 with 2 doubles.
The St. Cloud Crush baseball team captured the Section 8-4-A title last Thursday when they beat Moorhead 9-1 in the section final in Cold Spring. Crush head coach Chris Koenig joined me on WJON.
ROCORI defeated Benilde-St. Margaret's 11-1 in 6 innings in the Class 3-A State Tournament consolation semifinals Thursday in North Mankato. ROCORI scored 2 runs apiece in the 1st, 3rd and 4th innings and erupted for 5 runs to put the game away in the 6th inning.
The Cathedral softball team will be making their 4th state tournament appearance in school history when they play Wednesday in North Mankato against defending Class AA Champion Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at 3 p.m.
