We’re in the middle of March Madness. The NCAA Tournament is such a great time of year for those who love basketball. But it can also be a dangerous time of year for those who like or even love to gamble on the games.

Sports betting is legal in many states, but Minnesota is not one of them. To be honest, it seems shocking to me since I’m not a native of this state. My home state of North Carolina, which as a whole leans very conservative, has sports betting now. Minnesota is known for its more liberal stance on things and the fact it’s still banned here is surprising. But that’s a topic for another day.

Just because there’s no legal way to bet here doesn’t mean that people aren’t doing it anyway.

The Minnesota Lottery shared on X or Twitter this week that 250k adults and over six thousand high school students in Minnesota report having a problem with gambling. Those are concerning numbers, especially seeing how many high school students identify having an issue.

The state has a plentiful supply of resources to help those who find themselves in trouble and they want help to get out. There are even preventative measures you can take to help avoid falling back into a trap that has been a problem in the past.

With all the basketball, hockey and now baseball going on, the temptation is not going away anytime soon. The pressures and even danger that can be presented when things don’t go the way you wanted can really affect your well-being.

If you find yourself in a situation you feel you can’t get out of on your own, realize there is help, and it’s just a simple phone call or email away.
