Support Local Businesses: The White Horse Restaurant & Bar [LISTEN]

It's more important now than ever to support local businesses like bars and restaurants during the shut down.

Every weekday morning at 8 a.m. we'll be visiting with a local restaurant operator to find out how they are doing during the pandemic. We'll check-in and find out what specials they're running, how you can order for delivery, take-out our curbside pickup.

Today, were joined on the show by Jackie Lee with The White Horse Restaurant & Bar in downtown St. Cloud.

The restaurant opened in 2008. According to their website, the former owner Brian Lee, "believed the area was full of too many corporate chain restaurants." Thus, his 'scratch-kitchen' came to life.

They truly live up to their tagline, 'eats like a restaurant and drinks like a bar.' The White Horse has a full menu that features everything from burgers and pizza to wild caught salmon and certified Piedmontese New York Strip steaks.

They also offer tastes from 'around the globe', like, Thai peanut curry salmon, Jagerschnitzel (a panko breaded pork chop) and more.

Lee says her favorite dish is their Thai Green Curry, "the broiled walleye and the almond walleye are one of the best sellers also."

Like all Minnesota restaurants, they're closed to indoor dining. But, they're offering up their menu via takeout and third party delivery service. "We do have delivery through Food Dudes, and we just recently added Door Dash ."

The White Horse is also a bar, and right now they're offering up a 'Covid-19% discount'. You'll get a 19% off all wine and beer orders. It's only available via carry out or curbside pickup and not through their third party delivery service.

Lee shared that the restaurant recently had an anonymous donor buy 15 or 16 gift cards, "we're going to do some kind of promotion with maybe, like, a takeout Tuesday where you get  your name put in a drawing for one of those $25 gift cards."

They had been offering a 're-heat and eat' Thanksgiving family style meal a few weeks ago. It was so popular they're considering doing it again for the holidays. Lee says, "we're working on doing a family style takeout order for Christmas." You'd need to order the dinner in advance for a future pickup.

The restaurant is very active on Facebook and Instagram, posting their daily and weekly specials. Jackie Lee suggests following their social media pages to stay up-to-date with what they're doing.

In addition to supporting the restaurant with takeout and delivery, you can also buy gift cards. "We've had just a lot of people buying the gift cards … that's pretty awesome," Lee added.

Their lunch menu is available Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner goes from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. They're closed Sundays.

Lee expressed her gratitude by saying, "Thanks to the community. We really have a good community. Everybody just stay safe and healthy."
