It's more important now more than ever to support local businesses like bars and restaurants during the shut down.

Every weekday morning at 8 a.m. we'll be visiting with a local restaurant operator to find out how they are doing during the pandemic. We'll check-in and find out what specials they're running, how you can order for delivery, take-out our curbside pickup.

Today, were joined on the show by Mitch Eickhoff with Old Capital Tavern in Sauk Rapids.

The restaurant's menu is constantly changing from week to week in an effort to provide their customers with more variety and keep things fresh. They've recently added a smoked BBQ rib with potatoes and vegetables to the menu, with other options being added weekly.

Before the shutdown, they had planned to host a four course beer dinner event. Each course would be prepared by their chef and paired with a beer from a local brewery. They've decided to roll with the changes and still offer it up, but instead, as a virtual event.

Eickhoff says, "We have local breweries that are gonna kinda line up the beers for it which are takeout also. That should be available for sale coming up here in a couple weeks." The dinner would then be available for pickup sometime within the first week of January.

According to Old Capital Tavern's Facebook page, they're now offering up a 5 course dinner along with 6 beers. During your dinner, you're encouraged to watch a video link they'll have available for you to hear about how the meal and beers were created and prepared by the restaurant's chefs as well as local breweries.

The restaurant is also encouraging people to support local businesses. Until December 10th, when you bring in your receipt from another small restaurant, Old Capital Tavern will give you 20 percent off your bill.

Gift cards are also a great way for you to help support the restaurant during the shutdown. Eickhoff says right now, when you buy $50 in gift cards, you'll get $10 back in Capital Cash.

Old Capital Tavern is open for takeout and delivery Wednesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. "Our hours might be changing depending on trends and stuff like that. But as of right now, that's what we're doing."

You can stay up-to-date with Old Capital Tavern's specials, promotions, events and changing store hours by following them on Facebook and by visiting their website.

You can place a new order by calling the store at 320-291-4542. They're located at 2 North Benton Drive in Sauk Rapids.
