COLLEGEVILLE -- To combat cabin fever over winter break, a student at St. John's University opted to brave the cold and build an igloo outside of his dorm.

"During the building process, people would be walking by probably wondering what the heck that kids doing," says Mitch Fritz, a first-year student at St. John's.

Fritz played junior hockey in Canada, where he says he had to find other ways to fill his downtime other than watching TV or playing video games.

"[I'm] a pretty outdoorsy guy, so I do whatever I can to get outside a little more and I guess this is one crazy way to do that."

Fritz says it took him over 15 hours and about 500 colored bricks of ice to construct the igloo, which he lights up at night.

"It was a pretty tedious project," Fritz says. "It took several hours and there were times when I didn't know what I was doing out here."

"Now looking back at it, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and it's been fun seeing the reactions."

You may want to hurry out to the igloo outside of St. Thomas of Aquinas Hall, as Fritz says the warmer temperatures coming up this week may cause the structure to fall.
