St. Cloud VFW To Hold Special Memorial Monument Dedication
ST. CLOUD -- A special memorial service will be held at the St. Cloud VFW Post 428 tomorrow (Monday) to remember the many who have served.
The VFW will officially dedicate their monument, located in front of the building, to honor our military on Memorial Day.
Jerry Jansky says the monument took several months to complete and they couldn't be happier with the results.
"One thing led to another and it went very well. We are very happy with what took place and how it turned out," says Jansky.
Jack Caputo says they have about 900 names inscribed on the monument who will always be remembered.
"The VFW is Veterans of Foreign Wars, but we opened the monument up to include all the individuals who served in the military. The idea was to include not exclude," says Caputo.
The dedication will begin at 1:00 p.m. and last about an hour. There will be music, food, awards and a special presentation with speaker Major General Gerald Lang.
Caputo says all the names on the monument have connections to St. Cloud and hopes this gets veterans to share their story.
"A lot of veterans never talked about what they did in the service to their family members. So this is an opportunity for healing, to have their name out there, to be recognized and an opportunity to tell their story," says Caputo.
Jansky says they expect about 1,000 people at the dedication and there will be plenty of parking for every.
The city of St. Cloud will temporarily close West St. Germain Street between 18th Avenue North and Osseo Avenue North and between West St. Germain Street and 1st Street North for the dedication.
