ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud officials are looking at selling naming rights to both the Municipal Athletic Complex and also the River's Edge Convention Center.

Last month WJON News told you about some upgrades needed at the Municipal Athletic Complex to make it economically viable and make it attractive for selling the naming rights. As part of that same study, St. Cloud is looking at what's needed to sell the naming rights to the River's Edge Convention Center.

Tony Goddard is the Director of Community Services & Facilities. He says the original civic center was built in 1989 with the most recent addition coming in 2012. He says the original building still has the same heating, cooling and sound system from years ago.

Capital improvement projects at the MAC, River's Edge and Paramount Theatre are paid for through food and beverage tax dollars collected by the city.

Goddard says the city formally requested interested companies to submit inquiries on naming rights about a year ago. He says two businesses expressed formal interest and those conversations continue as a plan is formed to upgrade the facility. Goddard wouldn't name the potential partners.

City staff will be looking to make a recommendation on a capital improvement plan to the city council in the coming months.
