ST. CLOUD - Calvary Community Church and Place Of Hope teamed up to raise money for those in need.

The event is called "Empty Bowls" and was originally started by a teenager and has grown into a international organization. The idea was guests were served soup and bread and were asked to take their bowls as a reminder of hunger in the world.

Pastor Carol Smith and Place Of Hope Ministries adopted "Empty Bowls" 13 years ago and the event has become an annual staple of the St. Cloud community.

"What is does is help people to realize that everyday somebodies bowl is empty and that's where the "Empty Bowls" came from."

Though "Empty Bowls" focuses on the hungry, Place Of Hope Ministries has extended their boundaries into helping anyone who may need free medical care, clothing, personal, care items, and even provide shelter and housing. Pastor Smith says they serve 7,000 meals a month.

The event happened at Calvary Community Church from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There was live music throughout the church and craft vendors with several different hand made items.

If you weren't able to make the event and would like to help Place Of Hope you can contact 320-203-7881 or hope@placeodhopeministries.org
