Club Almar Keeps Community Spirit Alive With Warm Hospitality
On Sunday, I had the chance to meet up with some friends, and we all decided we wanted to go out and grab a beverage and catch up after a busy summer. We ended up deciding on going to St. Augusta and having a drink at Club Almar before heading to the Legion for the meat raffle.
The Longest Running Female-Led Business In St. Augusta
Mary Prom, who owns Club Almar and was also featured in the St. Augusta parade, has been in business since the 60s, and she is still putting in work, even on the weekends.
While we were at Club Almar, Mary was working behind the bar, getting people beverages, and offering up freshly popped popcorn to anyone sitting inside.
When Mary came over to our table, we were fortunate enough that Mary had some time to talk to us about the bar, and what seems to make the bar so popular with residents of not only St. Augusta, but from with people from other nearby cities.
'Mary Is What Makes Club Almar Special'
When we asked her what makes Club Almar so special, Mary was cut off by another patron as who told us that it was Mary herself who makes the bar so special. For anyone who wanders in from outside will see, if Mary is working, there are plenty of people inside having a good time.
Weekly Community Fundraisers
When you drive by the bar on County Road 7, you'll see a meat raffle sign, as well as what organization is involved with that week's raffle, often times organizations like area baseball or softball teams, sometimes it's the church across the street, or even the St. Augusta Fire Department.
Club Almar is what a small town should be like: everyone's welcome as long as you mind your P's & Q's, and it's often filled with smiles, laughter, good music, and of course, freshly popped popcorn.
