Split Rock Lighthouse Makes National Top 5 Campsites List
Dyrt Magazine just published their top 10 campsites in the nation and our own Split Rock Lighthouse made the top 5.
At only $22 this is a bargain. If you have an RV, this is not for you. It's the grass roots bag and tent type of campsite, and you can bring your pet. It also says you can have a fire, but that might not be the case with the drought and dry conditions around the whole state, you may not want to start a fire to cook or keep warm.
Dyrt magazine says this is the ultimate place to camp by Lake Superior, with a great view of the Split Rock Lighthouse. We all know that no matter where you go in the state there are lots of trails and places to hike with many different views of the wilderness and Lake Superior, and many different places where you can escape and have your own beach to swim with a private experience.
Split Rock Lighthouse is one of the most photographed places in Minnesota says Dyrt Magazine, so you know if you have an intimate camping spot you are going to get some good shots of the lighthouse too.
There are 26 sites according to Dyrt, 20 walk-in, 2 drive-ins, and 4 backpack-in sites. The magazine goes on to boast of all the scenic value. Anyone who has visited the lighthouse has seen what kind of views the area has.
The Minnesota Historical Society also says this is a really good paddle-in location, with many kayakers, boaters, and canoers finding a way to dock up and take advantage of the area.
If this article is convincing you that you have missed some of the gifts it offers even though you have visited the Split Rock Lighthouse, the Minnesota DNR page has a virtual tour.
If that makes you want to take advantage of the campsite, you can make a reservation here.
