March Could End Up Being Minnesota’s Snowiest Month This Winter
Hopefully you didn't pull out your patio furniture like my husband did because it's time to put it all away again. Mother Nature isn't through with us yet this winter. As it turns out, March 2024 could end up being Minnesota's snowiest month this winter.

The Weirdest Winter Ever
This winter has been so bizarre with how mild it has been. I really can't complain too much because I've enjoyed the warmer winter but it's also just not right. We need a little snow.

I don't have kids so I'm not sure if this is true but it feels to me that there were almost no opportunities for kids to get out and go sledding this winter. Which is sad because that was one of my favorite parts of winter growing up!
Kids might get the opportunity to sled in the next week or so, though.
Snowfall Totals So Far in Minnesota
Let's first take a look at snowfall totals so far this winter across Minnesota.
In Duluth, the snowiest month was January with 9.3 inches, according to the National Weather Service. So far this winter a total of just 18.7 inches have fallen in the Duluth area.
In the Twin Cities, the snowiest month was February with 7 inches. So far this winter a total of 14.3 inches has fallen.
And in Rochester, the snowiest month was January with 7.1 inches. So far this winter a total of 11.9 inches has fallen.
Winter is Coming (Back)
Taking a look at the forecast over the next two weeks, it definitely looks like snow is on the way. It may even cause March to be our snowiest month of the winter.
In Duluth, based on The Weather Channel app on my phone, 3-5 inches is expected to fall on Sunday the 24th. Then Monday and Tuesday 1-3 inches is expected each day. Wednesday the 27th snow accumulations of less than an inch are expected. And finally on the 31st, some snow showers.
If the worst-case scenario happens, Duluth could see up to 11 inches of snow before we flip to April.
Moving on to the Twin Cities forecast, some snow showers are expected Thursday the 21st but it doesn't appear they're predicting much accumulation.
But then on Sunday the 24th 3-5 inches is expected, 1-3 inches is expected both Monday and Tuesday, and some snow showers on Wednesday. More snow showers are expected to finish up March. So the Twin Cities could see up to 11 inches as well.
And finally, let's check on the Rochester forecast. Just some snow showers are predicted for Thursday the 21st. Then, on Sunday the 24th, 3-5 inches is expected, 1-3 inches on Monday and Tuesday, and showers on Wednesday. Then there's a chance for snow showers to close out the month.
That means that Rochester is also at risk of seeing up to 11 inches of snow before March ends.
If this truly happens, that would officially make March the snowiest month of this winter. Who else isn't excited?
