This Central MN Town Is The Smallest In The World To Have One Of These
Take a moment and think, when was the last time you drove past a McDonald's restaurant? Chances are it was when you were on the interstate and passing through St. Cloud, Rochester, Duluth, Maple Grove, etc. One Minnesota town holds the distinction, as it's even listed on its government website, of being the smallest population town in the world to have a McDonald's. What Minnesota town do you think it is?
Population Vs McDonald's Restaurants?
There isn't a set population size for a town to have a McDonald's, but in general, many places that do have a golden arches seem to be north of 10,000 residents. This isn't an exact rule, as if a city has enough traffic flowing through it, and it's less than 10,000 people, a McDonald's could pop up.
But what about a city with an estimated 2023 population of 151? Not likely for a McDonald's, right? Not the case on the shores of Lake Mille Lacs, as Garrison, Minnesota, on the northwestern shores of Mille Lacs, is home to a McDonald's, making it, according to the City of Garrison website, the smallest city in the world to have a McDonald's.

Of course, Garrison is more than just a stop to grab a Big Mac; it's also home to the Garrison Walleye, where more than 300 cars stop a day to grab a picture with the huge fish on their way either to or from Northern Minnesota.

Wally, as the statute is known, is 19 feet long, and can be found right off Highway 169, as you get into town, past the McDonald's, of course.
