A MAN WITH CONTAGIOUS ENTHUSIASM

For many who knew Cody, the first thing they mention is his spirit. He had a presence that filled a room. Friends and coworkers say he was a ball of energy who loved to laugh, tell stories, and make people feel welcome.

When Cody was around, you knew it. His personality naturally made him the center of attention, not because he tried to be, but because his enthusiasm for life was contagious.

CODY'S JOURNEY IN LAW ENFORCEMENT

Cody’s journey in law enforcement began as a Reserve Officer in Big Lake. Even early on, it was clear he had found the work he was meant to do. Serving the public, protecting his community, and helping people during their most difficult moments was something he took seriously.

SERVING THE BECKER POLICE DEPARTMENT

In 2016, Cody joined the Becker Police Department. During his time there, he quickly built a reputation as someone who worked hard and cared deeply about the people he served. His fellow officers describe him as someone always willing to step up, whether that meant taking the lead during a difficult situation or simply being there to support a colleague.

EAST RANGE SARGEANT IN BABBITT

Cody eventually went on to serve as a police officer in Babbitt and became an East Range Sergeant. Wherever his career took him, one thing never changed. His commitment to helping others remained at the center of everything he did.

SOMEONE WHO WANTED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE- THAT WAS CODY

He devoted his life to service in more ways than one. In addition to being a police officer, Cody served as a K-9 handler and a medic. Those roles require patience, skill, and a deep sense of responsibility. They also reflect the type of person Cody was. He wanted to be useful. He wanted to make a difference.

THE CENTER OF HIS UNIVERSE

But beyond the badge, the uniforms, and the responsibilities of the job, Cody’s most important role was being a father.

Cody was a dedicated dad to his two young sons. Friends say his children were the center of his world. Like so many parents, he worked hard to build a life where they would feel safe, supported, and proud of their father. Everything he did was rooted in that love.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO ALL WHO LOVED HIM

For the Becker Police Department and the many communities Cody served, this loss is incredibly difficult. Law enforcement is often described as a family, and when one of their own is gone far too soon, I've heard that the grief is shared by everyone who wore the badge beside him. My heart goes out to his family, his law enforcement family, and all who knew and loved him.

Across Minnesota’s law enforcement community, officers are remembering Cody not just as a colleague, but as a friend. Someone who showed up ready to work, ready to help, and ready to make the long shifts a little lighter with his humor and personality.

The sadness surrounding his passing is heavy, but so is the gratitude for the time he spent serving others.

A SIMPLE MESSAGE TO CODY FROM FELLOW OFFICERS

Now those who worked beside him are left carrying forward that mission.

The Becker Police Department shared a simple message that speaks for many who are grieving: 'May you rest in peace, Cody. We will take it from here.'
