School Loan Collected By SWAT Team
Recently, a Stockton, California man had his front door kicked down, was dragged in his underwear to his front yard and handcuffed in front of his three children by a SWAT team.
Was he a drug dealer? He must have robbed, or assaulted, someone, right? Actually, no. In fact, they weren't even after him.
His estranged wife had defaulted on her student loan payments, and the U.S. Department of Education apparently sent the heavily armed squad in to collect.
This is bad news for me - and others still with student loans to pay.
Kenneth Wright was detained in a police car for over six hours as the authorities tried in vain to search for his wife, who was not at the home.
"All I want is an apology for me and my kids and for them to get me a new door," Wright said in an interview with ABC News 10 of Stockton.
He deserves a lot more than an apology.
The Department of Education won't comment on the incident.
Obviously, they know that this was not the proper way to go about collecting their money.
