Sauk Rapids-Rice High School Holding Blood Drive March 31
The COVID-19 pandemic has really had a negative impact on the number of people donating blood. Many people have been limiting their activities and travel. However, the American Red Cross has a constant need for blood and platelet donations even during the pandemic.

According to the American Red Cross's website, "The American Red Cross is testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. As part of that effort, plasma from whole blood donations that test positive for COVID-19 antibodies may now help current coronavirus patients in need of convalescent plasma transfusions."
Sauk Rapids-Rice High School announced that they'll be doing their part to make donating blood easy for you. They're holding a blood drive on Wednesday, March 31.
If you're interested in making a blood donation, you'll want to go to the Discovery Church between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. That's where the American Red Cross will be set up, in partnership with the school.
On the Sauk Rapids-Rice District website they wrote, "The need for blood is great! Sauk Rapids-Rice High School is sponsoring an American Red Cross blood drive."
If you plan to make a whole blood donation there are some things you should know ahead of time.
- If you've had a COVID-19 vaccine, you'll need to disclose that information and know the name of the manufacturer.
- You can only donate once every 56 days.
- You must be in good health and feeling well.
- You need to be 17 years or older to donate (16 with parental consent).
- You must weigh at least 110 pounds to be eligible.
