Reese Witherspoon Joins Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Inherent Vice’
Straight from the Cannes film festival, Deadline reports that Reese Witherspoon has joined Paul Thomas Anderson's 'Inherent Vice.' The actress will star alongside previously announced cast members Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, and Benicio Del Toro. This is certainly shaping up to be a stellar cast, though it's hardly surprising given Anderson's track record with selecting his talent.
The film, based on the Thomas Pynchon novel of the same name, stars Phoenix as sleazy, pot-smoking 70s private detective Larry "Doc" Sportello, who investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. Del Toro will play his lawyer, a guy always eager to offer up some good advice even though he's not technically a lawyer. We're unsure whether Witherspoon is playing the role of the ex-girlfriend.
Witherspoon and Phoenix previously worked together on the Johnny Cash biopic 'Walk the Line,' and the odd pair had wonderful chemistry -- imagine what they could do under the direction of Anderson, who gave Phoenix one of the greatest performances of his career in last year's 'The Master.'
In addition to 'Inherent Vice,' Witherspoon just completed filming on 'Devil's Knot,' based on the story of the West Memphis Three.
