I just finished watching the Netflix Original Series “Quarterback” which if you’re not familiar follows three NFL Quarterback’s through an entire season and breaks it down to seven episodes.

This was the second season for the show, and for the second straight year former Vikings Quarterback Kirk Cousins was one of the QB’s that was featured. The year before the show followed Kirk through what turned out to be his last year with the Minnesota Vikings.

Last year, Cousins was in his first with the Atlanta Falcons. Learning a new system, playbook and teammates was one of the focuses of the early episodes, along with seeing Cousins and the other QB’s; Joe Burrow in Cincinatti and Jared Goff from the Detroit Lions in their homes and around their families.

The current season of Quarterback was also the second straight year that Atlanta had their QB as one of the subjects for the show and the second straight year that that player was benched during the season for their back-up.

I’ll give it to Kirk Cousins for a couple of reasons. First, he seemed to be very honest and appeared to speak candidly and act in front of the cameras as he would when they were not there. Of course, there’s no way for me to know that for sure but seemed comfortable doing and saying the things he did.

I was really impressed with his dedication to studying film and the notebooks that he creates during the year. He uses composition books to make notes on each team they face and then keeps them to review when he faces that team again.

Lastly, in a very emotional moment, Kirk’s wife Julie describes the moment Kirk gets the call from the head coach to go into his office to be informed that he was being benched. Julie cried when telling how Kirk reached out to rookie Michael Penix Jr., and informed him he was the starter now.

Julie and Kirk both talked about how their young sons reacted to the change in dad’s job and how one of them thought that meant he had been kicked off the team.

On that same topic, to hear Coach Raheem Morris talking about the first practice after Cousins was running the scout team and how effective he was in that role.

I liked Kirk Cousins before the first season of Quarterback, and that admiration grew after seeing him in the second season. I respect and admire how open he is with his faith and how that directs how he lives his life.

As someone who has covered sports for a long time, I appreciated the honesty Cousins had about his play and the dedication he has to his job. It was also nice to see how he tried to take advantage of time with his kids even though he was tired.

I’m not sure what the season holds for Kirk Cousins, but I do wish him the best.

Oh, one more thing. If you’ve not seen Quarterback, I think this year's show really does a good job of showing what these players’ bodies go through, and we get good exposure to the punishment they endure each week.
