RECALL ON BRUCEPAC CHICKEN

BrucePac Chicken out of Woodburn, Oregon, is the latest company to recall approximately 10 million pounds of meat and poultry products. The products were made at an Oklahoma plant and were produced between June 19th and October 8th of 2024, and were shipped nationwide to various restaurants, food service vendors as well as other sites.

LISTERIA CONTAMINATION POSSIBLE

The products were recalled because they may be contaminated with listeria bacteria, which can cause people to get sick and die. The US Agriculture Department officials detected the listeria through routine samples of the products, and after doing further testing, concluded that BrucePac chicken was the source of the listeria contamination.

WHAT IS LISTERA?

Listeria, or Listeriosis, is a pathogenic bacteria found in moist environments and can live and grow in refrigerators, even if people take extra steps to ensure the product's safety.

The bacteria is transmitted when the food is harvested or prepared, packed or transported, or even stored in environments contaminated with L. Monocytogenes.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY LISTERIA?

Symptoms of listeriosis depend on how severe the case is. Mild symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Serious cases include headaches, stiff neck, loss of balance, confusion, and convulsions. People who are immune-compromised, older or very young could die.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED

Symptoms typically show up within a few hours or a few days after eating the food infected. If you think you or someone you know may have ingested food with listeria, you should contact your doctor immediately and tell them.
