Over the years, there have been many businesses that have originated out of someone's baement or trunk of their car.  And these are legitimate businesses.  The earliest ones that I can remember is Avon or Mary Kay or Home Interiors.  Tupperware was also very popular.  These were products that were sold mostly in people's homes.  You would have a party, people would come over and enjoy some refreshments, and hopefully buy some stuff.  That way, the host would benefit from their friends buying some products towards products of their own.

Since then, most of those types of parties have gone away.  Not all of them, obviously, but since we now have the internet, a lot of those parties have gone virtual.  No more light snacks and drinks and everyone getting together in someone's home.  You just download the catalog and shop away.  The host will still benefit from their friends buying some products, but it's not as fun.

Recently, like within the last couple of years, I have attended a Thirty One bag/gifts party.  Actually in person.  Those tote bags are awesome, and I've seen so many people with those totes around the area.  They came in so many different patterns and sizes.  Good for almost anything.  And now, we hear this sad news that this company will be closing by early December of this year.

Thirty-One Gifts announced it is closing. In a video statement made to representatives yesterday, Founder Cindy Monroe informed field leaders that the company would be closing. The official end date is expected to be effective before the end of 2024.

The company was started in 2003 in Cindy Monroe's basement in Tennessee.  These tote bags have been very popular in Minnesota.  The name Thirty One comes from the Bible, and is a Christian company.

Thirty-One's name is derived from Proverbs 31 of the Bible which describes a virtuous woman who exhibits hard work, wisdom, encouragement & care for others.

This is a bummer.  There have been several other Direct Sales companies that have either closed or totally altered their business.

Thirty-One Gifts’ closure is part of a larger pattern of companies exiting or modifying their direct selling model, and follows the announcement of a number of other direct selling companies with multi-level structures switching to single-level or affiliate models in the last six months, including BODi, Seint and Rodan + Fields, as well as the closure of Beautycounter in April.

Until then, if you like the Thirty One products, you can still order through their website, or have a party.  And they are running some sales - so you can save on some of your purchases.
