Cross-Training Suggestions for Safer Marathon Prep This Winter
ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- It won't be long before marathon and 5K events start popping up on the calendar, and a doctor with CentraCare has some off-season training tips for you.
Dr. George Morris says that as the weather starts to turn nicer, runners undoubtedly want to start training outside.
He says icy conditions on roads and sidewalks can make outside running hazardous this time of year. Dr. Morris says one way to train is to run through the snow...
If you really are saying I'd like to get outside and motivated, head to one of the parks and just go off the trail. You may need to think a little bit about that and saying yep, my shoes may possible get wet or muddy, but you'll be less likely to fall.
Dr. Morris says cross-training is a good workout for runners, including snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, stair climbing, elliptical training, rowing, and swimming.
