Former Tim Horton’s in St. Cloud Changes to Tobacco Shop

Driving around St. Cloud you notice new businesses and strip malls being built and opened.  But, many of these strip malls seem to remain mostly unoccupied, yet they are still being built.  I guess that will keep some building companies busy.

NEW BUSINESS IN ST CLOUD

If a new business opens, it seems like it's usually either a bank, a car wash, or a chicken restaurant.  I am kind of joking, but for real, it does seem like that.

Driving down 2nd street/Roosevelt Road, I noticed that the former Tim Hortons now is a tobacco shop.

WHEN DID TIM HORTONS CLOSE

Tim Hortons was only open for a short time, and closed in 2019.  I live near there, and never got the chance to go in and see what it was all about, but I heard that they had great coffee.  Tim Hortons is based in Canada, and didn't seem to work here in the states.

REZONING OF THE SPACE

Since then, it has been closed, not torn down, just sitting there with weeds growing all around.  The site had been rezoned in April of this year, after a unanimous vote by the St. Cloud Planning Commission.  The rezone would allow a retail space in the former coffee shop.

Until now.

IS THE TOBACCO SHOP OPEN

I did a little research, and it doesn't appear to be open.  And there is no signage that suggests when that will happen.  But the sign has definitely been changed.

Thoughts on this one - do we need another tobacco shop?  Or, what might have been better in this space.  It's right behind Huntington Bank off of 25th Street in St. Cloud.
