My Favorite Goo Goo Dolls Song- Better Days [VIDEO]

My favorite tune by them is 'Better Days'. It was released back in September of 2005, and  was an instant add on MIX 94.9. The first time I heard those opening piano strains, I was hooked. But as I listened closer over the following months that we played it in HOT rotation, I began to realize that the lyrics vaguely hinted at the spirit of Christmas!

When I mentioned this to my fellow DJ's and other music nerds in the building, they poo-pooed me. But it is true. When I went to look for the song on an album, I found that there was no album (at the time) and that the song was originally performed for a Target Christmas release. It was later added to 'Let Love In'  that was released in April of 2006. It was also used extensively in CNN and ABC's Hurricane Katrina coverage, as well as the theme song for a special Katrina edition of 'Extreme Home Makeover'.

If you listen to the Morning MIX, you know there are FEW Christmas songs I'm a huge fan of, but I have unintentionally become a major fan of this one. Probably because the Christmas message isn't in your face like many non-secular songs are. I've always been a fan of subtle reminders of spirituality in songs. 'Better Days' is truly the only Christmas song you'll hear all year long. That must mean it's pretty special- below the video, I've dropped the lyrics in so you can see the hidden Christmas meanings.
