Another BIG break in The Fugitive case, the Ghoulmet Guess, Halloween shenanigans, and what's new on DVD.

Your Ghoulmet Guess clue for today: Nine billion of these are produced every year. (Scroll down for the correct answer.)

This weekend at the Kids and Parents Expo, The Fugitive dropped his green messenger bag and someone dropped it off the Mix Studios. Pete and Jen go through the bag and reveal its contents.

Have you ever wondered what the stories behind Trick-or-Treating, Jack-o-Lanterns and haunted houses are? Well, trick-or-treating comes from an old tradition in England and Ireland where underprivileged kids  would go door to door praying for the dead on All Saints Day (November 1.) After World War II, American children started going door to door doing the same thing and people in the houses would give them candy, which led to trick-or-treating.

Jack-o-Lanterns come from an Irish legend about a farmer named Jack who would play tricks on the devil and God which got him banned from Heaven and Hell, so he roamed the world as a flame inside carved vegetables. Jack-o-Lanterns became part of Irish superstition and people would carve turnips and put them outside of their houses to scare away evil spirits. Americans used pumpkins instead because they were more abundant and they were easier to carve.

Haunted houses don't come from any tradition except from the American capitalist tradition of wanting to make more money. In the 1950's, Junior Chamber International clubs (otherwise known as The JayCees!) realized they could use the haunted house money as a fundraiser, so everyone else followed their lead.

Your Ghoulmet Guess answer: Candy Corn. Love it or hate it, I think it tastes best when eaten with dry roasted peanuts because it tastes like a Pearson's salted nut roll. By the way, National Candy Corn Day is October 30.
