Anoka, Minnesota has self proclaimed itself as the Halloween Capital of the World and they're celebrating 100 years this year...in a pandemic.

According to Anoka's Halloween website, they were the first city in the United States to throw a Halloween celebration back in 1920. It was started to keep the youngsters out of trouble. And, it's been celebrated ever since.

With the country battling a worldwide pandemic, Halloween looks a little different this year. But, Anoka has learned to roll with the punches and figure out a way to keep their 100 year traditions alive.

Luckily for central Minnesotans, the huge Halloween celebration is about a 50 minute drive by car from St. Cloud.

Anoka is still hosting their ever popular Grand Day Anoka Parade, but it'll be a drive by event this year.

The public is welcome to attend the parade from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Halloween day, Saturday, Oct. 31.

It's a free parade for people of all ages.

Here's how it works...the parade will be at several locations throughout the city. But, you won't be able to get early access to the parade viewing spots. They ask that you have zero contact with the parade units or people participating. They also won't be allowing foot traffic or bikes. You're asked to enjoy the fun from inside of your own vehicle. You can view the parade from the following locations;

  • Rick Sorenson Park
  • John Ward Park
  • Mauer Main Chevrolet
  • Anoka High School

Check out the official parade rules and protocol before you attend the event so you know what to expect.

Happy Halloween, central Minnesota!
