I know it's been an issue for awhile, the cashier situation at WalMart.  You go there at almost any time of the day, there are at least 7-10 cash registers that are there, but only about 1 or 2 of them are actually manned and open.  Lines can get very long, and it's pretty annoying.

The other option is to go through the self-check section.  This is potentially a lot easier and faster, but I have also heard people talk about how they don't want to use the self check out because "they don't work there, and it could take a job away from someone else".  Well, the latter may be true.  Now, anyway,  WalMart is thinking of going totally cashier-less.  Self checkout only. This is just a test, but it could be moving to WalMarts across the country if the test is successful.

There will still be jobs as "cashiers" sort of.  The idea is that there would still be a monitor by the self check out areas.  So, if you run into trouble (and that happens often) or make a mistake or need a price check, they will be there to help you out.  The problem I see with this, is the issue with not understanding what's happening, needing to place everything the the "bagging area" and then the computer lady yells at you, and not having enough room in the "bagging area".  And sometimes running into issues with forms of payment and what not.

I'm not sure that I want the test to go well. I kind of think we still need regular cashiers in order for things to run smoother, and to keep people working.  But that's just my two cents.
