It’s really hard to believe that we’re already in September, yet here we are. September guarantees high school football, back to school for everyone, the thoughts of fall being just around the corner.

September is also an important month for us as Americans; It’s National Voter Registration Month.  Even though there is not a highly charged presidential election this year, it is still a chance for those who are not already registered to vote, to get that way for upcoming elections in the future.

To cast a ballot in Minnesota, you have to have lived in the state at least 20 days before election day comes up. You also cannot be currently incarcerated for a felony offense. There cannot also not be any sort of order from any court that states that you cannot vote for any reason.

What You Need To Be Able To Register

When you go to register to vote, you need the following items:

  • Your Drives License or State Identification Card or the Last 4 Numbers of your Social Security Number
  • An email address
  • Meet the above eligibility requirements

You can register online. You can also download the voter registration form and return it to your voter registration office. In Minnesota you can also register at the same place you cast your ballot on election day.

One note to keep in mind, if you register a change of address with the United State Postal Service, you very well could have a new place to vote on election day.
