As we are coming into the colder months here in Minnesota, and I had to finally break down and turn out heat on.  I was pushing that one as far as I could, but 30 something degrees in the morning is too cold to not have the heat on.  I also saw on social media all of the former Minnesotans talking about how nice it is in Florida.  Personally I have zero desire to move to Florida.  But that's me.  It got me wondering, if Florida is usually the place that Minnesotans will move if they move out of state.

SURPRISE

The answer actually surprised me - but at the same time it didn't.

When checking to see where people from Minnesota will move to, the top answer was Wisconsin!  Yep, our neighbors to the right is the state most of us will move to if we move.  I'm guessing people here are creatures of habit, and we don't generally want to move too far from our comfort zone.  People who move will usually mention the economy, taxes and job opportunities.  Not just to Wisconsin, but to other states as well

North Dakota came up as a strong contender as to where people from Minnesota will move to.  And the taxes are definitely a reason why.  When I moved from Minnesota to North Dakota, working for the same company, my checks went up $50 just because I moved to Fargo.

Wisconsin does have it's perks too.  I lived in Green Bay.  It's a very nice area - except for all of the crazy Packer fans (kidding- kind of), but the proximity to Door County and also Chicago makes that area very desireable.

The third biggest move that Minnesotans make is to Texas.  That one might be for warmer weather, jobs, taxes and politics.

SNOW BIRDS

There are those that do move from here to Arizona and Florida, but that is not the bulk of people.  I get Arizona.  There are so many perks to living in Arizona.  You are about 4-5 hours away from everywhere that's cool, including the ocean, San Diego and Las Vegas.  Plus, 9 months out of the year it's basically paradise.

Florida - well there are hurricanes, alligators, snakes, and crazy other critters.  Plus, how far out do you need to go before you are hearing banjos???  Ok, I'm kind of joking about that last part.  But yes, you are definitely in the deep South in Florida.  And sometimes people forget that because of all the hype around the amusement parks.

Or, you just want warmer weather in the Winter time.  Understandable.

Where would you move?
