Minnesota Frost’s Strategic Draft Picks Aim For Another Championship
The Women’s Professional Hockey League draft results are in! The big question now—who will be suiting up for the Minnesota Frost this year? And honestly… can it get any better than it already has been? After back-to-back Walter Cup championships, fans are already dreaming big. Could the Frost pull off a three-peat?
Women's hockey has proven to be an exciting sport to watch, and now that they've expanded the roster to eight teams, it will be exciting to see if the Minnesota Frost can stay on top.
MINNESOTA'S DRAFT PICKS
With the 6th overall pick in the first round, the Minnesota Frost selected defenseman Kendall Cooper from Quinnipiac University. The 22-year-old Canadian star has a strong reputation on the ice, bringing both skill and experience to Minnesota’s defensive line. Cooper was twice named one of the top players at the 2019 IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship and has continued to turn heads throughout her college years. I can imagine that Frost fans are already buzzing to see what she’ll bring to the team.

Moving into the second round, the Frost added more firepower up front with the selection of forward Abby Hustler from St. Lawrence University. Also from Canada, Hustler is coming off an impressive season, scoring 19 goals and earning a spot as a finalist for the nation’s best women’s college player. Her speed, scoring capability, and aggressive play style will give the MN Frost’s offense an extra punch.
ANOTHER STAR FROM ST LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY
And it didn’t stop there. In the third round, Minnesota stayed with St. Lawrence University and picked forward Anna Segedi. Segedi tallied 10 goals last season and tied for third on her team in total points. She’s known for her smart play decisions and gritty work in front of the net.
For the fourth round, Minnesota chose defenseman Ava Rinker from the University of Connecticut. Rinker is known for her steady presence in the defensive zone and her ability to shut down her opponents.
FINDING THE BACK OF THE NET
In the fifth round, the Minnesota Frost grabbed another strong offensive player, Vanessa Upson from Mercyhurst University. Upson racked up 43 points last season. Her ability to create plays and find the back of the net will make her one to watch this coming season. I can't wait to see her in action.
Finally, with their sixth-round pick, the Frost selected defenseman Brooke Becker from Providence College. Becker’s strength on defense will bring even more depth to an already talented roster.
THE WAIT BEGINS
Now the wait begins. With this new group of players joining the team, fans are wondering if a third straight Walter Cup is truly within reach. Let's Go Minnesota Frost!
