I have heard a lot of farmers say that farming can be such a lonely occupation. Other farmers relate to them and understand the challenges they face, but it’s hard getting a lot of other people to really get the difficulties they encounter.

That is especially true when there seems to be great odds against farmers, but the State of Minnesota wants to remind farmers they’ve got help standing by who is trained to not only help but they understand as well.

Minnesota Farm Advocates are waiting to offer one-on-one interaction with farmers addressing the needs they have.  The areas that Minnesota Farm Advocates can help the most with are agricultural lending practices, negotiating with lenders, mediation, counseling during crisis situations, they understand farm programs and disaster programs, and if social services need to be contacted as well.

These continuing education topics include the most recent updates to foreclosure law, tax laws, loans, Farm Credit Services, and any government agency that might be able to assist the farmers.

The intent is to develop a one-on-one situation where farmers can find the help they need before situations become dire and then there are legal avenues that need to be pursued. There are Farm Advocates all around the state ready to offer a helping hand.

And maybe the best thing about Minnesota Farm Advocates, their services are free to farmers in Minnesota. Find out more here.
