Minnesota Could See ‘Below Normal’ Temps Labor Day Weekend

It's hard to imagine we are preparing to turn the calendar another month. September is on the way, and with its return, we start to think about autumn and fall weather. Well if you are a fan of crisp autumn days, with highs only making it into the 50s and 60s, you might be in luck Labor Day weekend. Meteorologists are tracking the upcoming holiday and it appears we might be in for a cool down.

Minnesota Public Radio recently published a weather-related post highlighting the potential for cold Alaskan air to arrive just in time for next weekend. 

The good news is that if we do see cooler weather it won't be 50s and 60s here in Central MN for highs, but if you are heading up to the cabin in Northern Minnesota expect highs in that mid-50s to mid-60s range, if we see this weather pattern, it can change and will change between now and then.

The Climate Prediction Center, which puts out a extended temperature outlook graphic doesn't seem to agree with the colder Alaskan air hypothesis quite yet, but the outlook was just issued on Tuesday.

I did find a European weather model, which is known for wild estimations of the weather being out further than a week at a time, but take a look at next weekend, as the calendar turns to September we go from the 80s to the 70s like the weather just spotting a Minnesota State Trooper camped out in the median on I-94.

With the Minnesota State Fair expected to get underway tomorrow, we might see some attendance records if the forecast and models hold for the fair's final weekend.
