Miley Cyrus delivered an emotional performance of her new single "Slide Away" at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards Monday night (August 26).

Cyrus looked poised yet somber during the performance, which aired in black and white. Afterwards, the camera panned to her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, in the audience.

The performance, which was only announced Monday morning, came just weeks after Cyrus tweeted that there was "no f---in' way" she'd perform at the 2019 award show after initially being snubbed in the major categories.

The 11-time VMA nominee, who won the award for Video of the Year in 2014 for "Wrecking Ball," is nominated in two newly announced fan-voted categories for 2019: Best Power Anthem and Song of the Summer for her She Is Coming single, "Mother's Daughter."

Cyrus previously delivered a controversial performance at the VMAs in 2013, during which she sang "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines" with Robin Thicke, whom she twerked on. The pop star and actress hosted the award show in 2015.
