One Sauk Rapids family has been bringing holiday cheer to the community with the help of over 20,000 glowing lights.

Crystal and Andrew Behrendt along with their children Destiny, Justin, Alyssa, Kendra and Christopher have put together a massive Christmas light display in their yard that's gained the attention of hundreds.

In addition to the thousands of twinkling lights strung up around their home and yard, the Behrendts are also displaying 23 inflatable holiday characters, including a giant Santa Claus an several huge snowmen.

The Behrendt family is encouraging children to drop off their letters to Santa in a special North Pole mailbox they made. If you include your name and your address, Cyrstal says, "Santa will write you a letter back." It's a project her kids have been helping her with.

For people who are worried about COVID-19, Crystal says, "there's a slot [in the mailbox] so no need to touch anything."

They're also going to start collecting non-perishable food items that'll support the local food shelf. Crystal added, "we didn't realize there would be this big of a response. We started this to give people a fun, safe and cheerful way to spend time [together], and allow the kids to get their Christmas wishes noticed."

The light display is open weekdays from 4 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and weekends from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. through Christmas.

It's located at 1101 10th Ave North in Sauk Rapids.
