Balatan, MN (KROC-AM News)- First responders rescued a man who was trapped in a grain bin on a farm in southwestern Minnesota

A news release issued by the Murray County Sheriff’s Office says the rescue operation began around 3:15 Tuesday afternoon. 

Preliminary reports from the scene indicated the man was completely submerged in the bin.

The rescue occurred at a property in the 700 block of 211th St. in the small town of Balaton, which is about 25 miles south of Marshall. 


Emergency responders from eight agencies, including a medical helicopter, were dispatched to the scene. 

Rescue personnel were able to extricate the man from the grain bin and remained on the scene for about an hour after saving the man, the news release says.

The name, age and medical condition of the trapped individual have not been released. No other information is available as of Wednesday morning. 

The Murray County Sheriff’s Office says the incident is under investigation.
