Minnesota Based Target Drops in Fortune List After 24 Years
There is a "Most Admired Companies" list in Fortune magazine and Target has remained towards the top of that list for years. For this year - 2026, Target has dropped from the list for the first time in 24 years.
There could be many reasons for the drop from this list - but the one that is most likely is the controversy that has surrounded Target for the last year or more.

TARGET HAD MANY PRODUCTS AND POLICIES THAT PEOPLE ADMIRED PREVIOUSLY
After the murder of George Floyd, Target implemented many of it's diverse products and policies. That came with praise and some controversy of it's own. But mostly praise. Since that time, they have dropped some of those lines and products that they were carrying and also they changed a few of their policies. Plus, so far they have not come out to declare that ICE is not welcome in or around their corporate business in downtown Minneapolis.
The Minneapolis-based retailer was slashed from Fortune’s annual All-Star list, which ranks companies globally on their corporate reputation. The magazine cited declining revenue as one factor for the decision; Target has also drawn barbs for changing policies on diversity.
REACTIONS REGARDING THIS DEVELOPMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA
You can see that a lot of the comments on this Facebook post are saying that it's karma and that they aren't surprised. While there are also some comments with people supporting Target and claiming that they do and will continue to shop there regardless. But most of the comments that you can see are stating that they are not surprised with this development.
Maybe this year they can turn this around stated one commenter. We will see.
