The boys basketball playoffs in the state of Minnesota begin tonight, and here in Central Minnesota, we have several teams that may be ready to make a run to the state championship.

Apollo is the class of the Central Lakes Conference, and should have an easy time tonight against Sauk Rapids-Rice.  The Eagles went undefeated in league play this season, and only had a couple of conference games that were even close.

The Rocori Spartans are young, but very talented.  Sophomore Jonah Eisenshank may be the best player in Minnesota that nobody knows about.  The problem for Rocori may be their post-season draw, as they are matched up in the first round against the defending section champs, the Little Falls Flyers, who themselves enter the playoffs on a 6 game winning streak.

St. Cloud Tech recently had a 10 game winning streak.  Alexandria starts five seniors.  Willmar has very good outside shooters.  All three of these squads could be very dangerous.

Detroit Lakes, Bemidji, and Moorhead are also very good teams from our area.

Minnesota is nicknamed the "state of hockey", but the local high school basketball scene takes a backseat to no other sport this year.  It will fun, and very interesting, to see how this all plays out.  If Apollo fails to win the section this year, I predict Rocori or St. Cloud Tech will.

It all starts tonight....
