A cat litter drive will be taking place this weekend, Saturday, May 17th, and Sunday, May 18th, in Waite Park, for an amazing shelter that had a terrible barnfire a few months ago that destroyed valuable inventory and more.

A barn that was used to house and care for cats and kittens up for adoption, and serve as a storage unit for valuable supplies, had a terrible fire just a few months ago.

THE FIRE AND EXPLOSION

The fire was created by an explosion in a storage area of a barn at Kindred Spirits Rescue in Little Falls, Minnesota. The explosion was so strong that the walls of the building were knocked off the building's foundation. Doors that were over 20 feet away from the explosion site were blown completely off the building.

Although the fire destroyed many of the supplies, everyone is thankful that none of the animals were seriously injured. The cats that were being housed there were from a large group of cats that were rescued back in December.

THANK YOU LITTLE FALLS FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR RAPID RESPONSE

The Little Falls Fire Department is being applauded for responding so quickly to the fire, saving lives and avoiding major injuries.

What WAS lost, though, was supplies that were badly needed for these animals. The supplies that were lost included:

  • 200 vaccine syringes
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Cat carriers
  • A live trap used to trap and release
  • Litter scoops
  • Bags of cat food
  • Cat toys
  • Heated water bowls
  • trash cans
  • Rescue disinfectant concentrate
  • lime sulfur concentrate
  • and more.

Although everyone is thankful that the cats survived, their living area sustained major damages. New living space had to be purchased for the cats which was also quite costly.

KINDRED SPIRITS NEEDS YOUR HELP

Right now, Kindred Spirits Rescue is in desparate need of community support. The cats were not yet ready for adoption as they needed to be ringworm free before adoption is possible.

They really need financial support right now to help create a safe space for the cats, and to help replace the lost supplies.
