What's in a name? Well, a lot, apparently. And these are the names to avoid if you're looking for someone to date here in Minnesota.

It’s not you, it’s me. Just kidding, it’s actually your name. Yes, that's right, the latest red flag when looking for someone to date someone here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes isn’t their being controlling, super jealous, or not tipping the server at a restaurant, it’s actually the initial of their first name.

Really? Well, the love experts over at Shane Co. set out to discover if singles in the North Star State have had either a good or bad dating experience based on the letter of someone's name. They conducted a nationwide survey, collecting data on 12,000 good and bad dates.

Here’s what they found:

  • Respondents in Minnesota have the best experiences with C and the worst experiences with J.
  • Only 2% of participants from the Gopher State think that certain letters can be toxic.
  • Overall, nearly 10% of Americans believe certain letters are toxic.

The Shane Co. survey also found that overall, Americans have had the most positive romantic experiences with J names (14%). That's not to say, though, that J names can't be a gamble, though. While 20 states have the most positive experiences with the letter J, another 21 states have the most negative experiences with it.

J names don't have anything on those darn dates with a name that begins with the letter M, however. According to the survey, M names have given out the worst romantic experiences nationally, at nearly 10 percent, according to the survey.
