Becker School District Responds To TikTok Video Involving Student & Teacher
The Becker Superintendent put out a letter to the community in response to a now viral video that was shot inside the high school that involves a student and a teacher. The student and teacher were arguing after Renee Good was shot and killed by DHS & ICE agents in Minneapolis, with the teacher in the clip referencing that just "because you are alive doesn't mean you are intelligent".
Response To Viral Video From Becker's Superintendent
Dr. Jeremy Schmidt, Superintendent, posted the letter to Becker's staff, students, family, and community in response to the video.
The letter states that the district won't be "driven by rumor, viral clips, or crowd pressure." The letter continues stating that the district will be "driven by facts, due process", and the district's obligation to "keep students safe and learning."

Also outlined in the letter is what the Becker School District is doing about the matter, which includes "conducting a formal review" using protocols and processes that are in place in the district, as well as using "applicable law".
Towards the end of the letter, Superintendent Schmidt asks those in the community who had previous concerns that weren't raised earlier to do so now, "directly, specifically, and in good faith."
Second Letter To The Becker Community This Month
A previous letter from Superintendent Schmidt from January 13th was asking for trust and partnership from families of Becker School District students, in what appears to be addressing online social media rumors.
This is in addition to a story that we wrote about the bathroom doors being removed from the bathroom entries inside the high school, leading to an online petition signed by 300+ community members to put the doors back on out of security and comfort for students.
We reached out to several district employees, including the Superintendent, about the bathroom doors, and we still have not heard back.
