Decisions, Decisions. Will There Be A MN QB Controversy After Europe?
With the 3rd week of the NFL season now in the books, the Minnesota Vikings are in a 3-way tie for first place in the NFC North. Joining the Vikings at 2-1 on the year are the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. With the next two weeks on the road for the purple, followed by a Week 6 bye, will Week 7 bring a quarterback controversy?
One Game Is Hardly A Sample Size But...
Let's say Carson Wentz goes undefeated over the next two weeks and the team goes into the BYE week at 4-1, still tied for first place in the NFC North. It seems the plan right now would be that in week 7, with the Vikings taking on the currently 3-0 Eagles, JJ McCarthy would be in line for the start...or would he? I think Head Coach Kevin O'Connell would have a tough decision to make.
From the one game sample size of Wentz at QB, he saw his average time to throw the ball against the Bengals of 2.55 seconds, much less than what JJ was seeing the first two weeks, roughly 3.15 seconds. I know the stats aren't rock-solid, but Wentz was able to get the ball out and get some offensive rhythm.
Some Say You Can't 'Give Up' On McCarthy
If the VIkings have success with Wentz under center the next two weeks, the decision to keep him as the starter over McCarthy gets more difficult. On one hand, Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings will want to see what you have in JJ, but on the other, you also want to keep winning.

If the Vikings arrive after the BYE with a 4-1 mark, going into a game with Philly, you would hope the team would start the QB that gives them the best chance to win now, versus down the road, but week 7 is still a long way away.
