The Minnesota State Fair’s ‘Edible Torpedo of Pleasure’ Has A New Location In 2026
If you are familiar with the world-renowned foodie and former Minnesotan Andrew Zimmern, you might know what one of his all-time favorite Minnesota State Fair foods is. That Zimmern favorite has new owners and a new location this year at the Great Minnesota Get-Together; here's what fans of Carl's Gizmo Sandwiches need to know ahead of the start of the fair.
An Andrew Zimmern Favorite
Carl's Gizmo Sandwiches, by all means, haven't been at the State Fair for as long as Sweet Martha's or the corn roast stand, but since it debuted in 2003, it's created a loyal and somewhat crazed following of customers.
Andrew Zimmern supposedly gets 5 Gizmos when he comes to the Minnesota State Fair; that's how good he thinks they are!
What Is A Gizmo?
If you aren't familiar with a Gizmo, here is what comes on one. Think of this sandwich as a cross between tendermaid, an Italian sausage sandwich, and a meatball sub.
- Seasoned ground beef
- Italian sausage
- A family-recipe red sauce
- Melted mozzarella cheese
- A toasted Italian roll
Sounds pretty good, right?
2026 Welcomes A New Location and A New Owner
According to a social media post Monday from Carl's Gizmo Sandwiches on Facebook, this year at the fair will mark two changes. The first change is a new owner, as Carla Wood is stepping aside. The new owner, Cory Steiner, has already taken over the stand at the Iowa State Fair, and Carla feels they will continue the success that the stand has had at the Minnesota State Fair.

For fans of the sandwich, they can thank Carla and even say goodbye to her, as she will be working at the stand the first week of the fair, before moving on.
The second big change this year is that the stand is in a new location. No longer will you have to ascend Machinery Hill for a Gizmo. The new location for this year is the intersection of Cooper Street and Dan Patch Ave. You should be able to find the stand not far from the Kidway.
