New Poll Shows Half Of Minnesotans Don’t Approve Of New Flag
A recent poll from a Twin Cities television station shows that a near-majority of Minnesotans don't approve of the new state flag. Various communities across Minnesota have opted to fly the former flag, rather than the new one, as a way to voice their displeasure.
50% of Minnesotans Don't Like The New State Flag
One year after the new state flag was adopted by the state legislature, a recent poll by KARE 11 shows that 50% of respondents disapprove of the new flag. 30% approved, and 20% weren't sure what they thought about the state flag.
According to KARE 11: "Fans of the new flag design are more likely to be found in Hennepin and Ramsey counties (45% approve vs. 30% disapprove), while most people disapprove of the design elsewhere in the state, including the Twin Cities suburbs (53% disapprove vs. 28% approve), northern Minnesota (65% disapprove vs. 20% approve) and southern Minnesota (64% disapprove vs. 18% approve)."
Cities Across Minnesota Are Flying The Former Flag
In the months following the new flag's adoption, various cities in Greater Minnesota have made local resolutions that support the former state flag, as well as displaying or flying the former flag versus the new one.

Cities like St. Augusta, Elk River, Champlin, and Zumbrota are just a few of the cities that have elected to display or fly the former state flag.
State Law Doesn't Require Cities To Fly A State Flag
No Minnesota law requires Minnesota cities to fly the state flag. Many cities, like Detroit Lakes, and counties aren't flying either version of the state flag and have just opted for flying the US flag.
