MN’s Top Independent Gas Station Can Be Found In Clearwater

Gas stations serve a variety of roles beyond fueling vehicles, ranging from car washes to truck stops and food destinations. While many stations operate as part of national or regional chains, independent stations remain important for drivers seeking local options. A recent national survey identified the best independent gas stations across the United States, with three Minnesota stations earning recognition.

Survey Results
According to a survey conducted by American River Wellness, more than 3,000 semi-truck drivers were asked to identify the best independent gas stations in the country. The top-ranked station nationwide was Rumpy’s Bakery & Deli in Gainesville, Texas, noted for its scratch-made fried pies, fresh breads, and deli offerings.

Minnesota’s Top Independent Station
The same survey identified the Clearwater Travel Plaza in Clearwater, Minnesota, as the state’s top independent gas station. In addition to fueling services, the plaza has earned recognition for its food offerings, including a bakery known for caramel rolls, a full-service restaurant featuring comfort foods, and a cocktail lounge. Family-owned for more than 40 years, Clearwater Travel Plaza ranked 49th overall in the survey results.

Other Minnesota Stations Recognized
Two additional Minnesota stations were included in the national rankings. Simonson Station Stores in Park Rapids was ranked 72nd. Respondents highlighted its Shell fuel pumps and deli, which offers wraps, sandwiches, and coffee for drivers along Highway 34. Truckers Inn in Sauk Centre was ranked 103rd. This location was recognized for its combination of fuel services, comfort food, and reputation as a reliable stop for truck drivers, making it a longstanding hub along Minnesota roadways.
