Midwest Beaches That Rival The Coasts For Summer Fun
Sometimes the best beaches aren't found exclusively in a coastal paradise. Sometimes, it's nice to stay in the Midwest and enjoy a summer day on a sandy beach close to home.
The HGTV crew toured every state looking for the best beaches - a job anyone would envy. Let's look at South Dakota and move on to Minnesota and Iowa, shall we?
South Dakota: Sylvan Lake.
One of the most scenic bodies of water is at Sylvan Lake nestled in the beautiful Black Hills. It's a popular tourist destination for its splendid hiking trails, rock climbing, and fishing - or just hanging on a beach.
Back in 2008 when National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets starring Nicolas Cage hit theaters people flocked to the lake to see this majestic destination. As people learned, the lake is not located directly behind Mount Rushmore as depicted in the movie but rather several miles away. But still, it's a perfect place to spend a day. And don't forget to rent a canoe.
Minnesota: Lake Carlos State Park.
If you want a daily dose of wildlife and crisp clean air a road trip to this Minnesota treasure is for you. A 4-hour drive from Sioux Falls and just over 200 miles lies a beautiful lake with expansive beaches and plenty of green grass. There are plenty of places to build a bonfire, canoe, and fish. Don't be surprised if a few beavers and loons come to visit.

Iowa: Gray's Lake Park
A day on the lake in the heart of Iowa might cure your blues. Near the capitol city of Des Moines lies a scenic piece of hidden paradise that features boating, canoeing, an easy-rated hiking trail for the family, and pretty darn good fishing.
I would also put Okoboji as a contender as well.
