Buckle up South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota...we're in for a wild storm system heading toward the Sioux Empire. What a way to start the week.
As early as Monday afternoon (July 7th), our friends at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls are predicting storms packed with strong winds and "hen egg" sized hail will be coming to the Sioux Empire.

This massive hail sounds scary, but the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is only trying to prepare us for any challenges this storm system could bring.
So what does "Hen Egg" Size Hail mean?
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls explains that this hail can be up to 2 inches and can cause some major damage.
The risk for strong storms remains for Monday afternoon/evening with the primary hazards being damaging winds up to 70 mph and hail up to the size of hen eggs (2").
What Are The Severe Weather Risks in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota?
Most of Iowa and Minnesota will be under a Level 1 Threat. This means there will be a "Marginal" risk of strong storms. For South Dakota...it depends on where you are. For example, Sioux Falls and cities along the I-29 corridor, such as Madison and Brookings, will be under a Level 2 Threat ("Slight"). For parts of western South Dakota, like Winner and near Lake Andes, they are under an "Enhanced" risk for severe weather (Level 3 Threat).
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is expecting severe weather to begin around 4 PM. Don't be surprised if an isolated tornado pops up in the Sioux Empire from this crazy storm.
