Three Witches + A Curse - Story Of A Minnesota Haunted Cemetery

Some people call this the most haunted cemetery in Minnesota because folklore is that there are three witches buried here. The cemetery was back from the pioneer days of the 1800s, and it's still a popular place for paranormal enthusiasts to visit.

Loon Lake Cemetery is located near Jackson, Minnesota. It's not far from the Iowa border.

Legend has it that a young witch Mary Jane Twiliger was beheaded and buried in the 1880s. Some people say it was the townspeople that killed her. Other versions of the tale say that it was her father who took her life.

The legend continues that two other witches were also buried on the site. Also, a curse of bad luck will follow anyone who disturbs the resting area. For example, if you skip across the graves or walk over them you will have bad luck until the day you die.

Is there an actual Mary Jane buried there?

There may be some disputes about the history, but we'll get to that in a minute. One fact that is true is that there really is a Mary Jane buried at the Loon Lake Cemetery. Due to the myth, there's been a lot of vandalism on the property. However, a giant plaque was put in place to honor those people buried there.

There was a song that was recorded in 1988 by the metal group Megadeth. One of the founding members was from Jackson, Minnesota, and the song is about a young witch buried alive by her father in the Loon Lake Cemetery, in Minnesota.
