In my opinion, there have been too many food safety recalls lately, but I wondered if it has always been that way, or if there has been a documented increase in the number of recalls in recent years compared to the past.

It turns out my gut feeling was right as a recent report showed a 15% increase in total food recalls between 2020 and 2024, with a significant rise in Class I recalls (the most serious). While some experts say the increase is due to improved detection capabilities and reporting requirements, the overall trend points to more recalls overall.

So far in 2025, the trend has continued. There have already been a significant number of food safety recalls impacting people in Minnesota, and experts believe that there will ultimately be more this year compared to previous years.

It can be challenging to keep up with all the food safety recalls and whether they impact you or the people you love, especially when several occur within a short period.

For example, during the last week of July and into August 2025, there were 8 new or active recalls that people should be aware of. Below are the important details involving all of them so you can keep your family safe.
