I stumbled on a story two days ago about how some companies are developing drones to counter school shooters. The very next day, we had the horrific shooting take place at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. This one hits close to home.

August 27, 2025 Annunciation Catholic School Shooting

Two children, ages 8 and 10, were killed while attending a catholic mass during their week of school. 17 others, most of them children, were also injured. What can we do to stop this? The cowardly killer purchased their guns legally.

I think at this point it's safe to say that if someone wants to harm our children in our schools, they will find a way. So how do we stop it?

It Could Have Been Even Worse

Authorities have said that the locked doors to the school and church made a difference in the casualties. Older children and adults covered the smaller kids, using their bodies as shields, preventing even more deaths. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about how terrible that scene must have been.

Could Counter-Drones Be The Answer?

There is a company out there called 'Campus Guardian Angel.' They have developed a high-tech drone system that the company believes can save lives during school shootings.

Here's how it works: someone hits the silent alarm, within second, the drones emerge from their docks, and pilots from the company take the drones and sweep the campus to find and deter the shooter. They communicate with local law enforcement to stop the threat.

It uses non-lethal technology, like shooting pepper rounds, and even flying into the shooter. The demonstrations look effective.

What Do You Think?

I think this is one of the best solutions I've seen yet. It's using non-lethal weapons that are effective at stopping or, at the very least, interfering with the shooter. It's not shooting bullets, so it's less likely to cause collateral damage to victims. It buys time for law enforcement to respond. I would be happy to see these be used in my kids' schools.

Now, how to pay for it is the question.
