It Sounds Like My Daughter’s Going To Fall Through The Ceiling [VIDEOS]

I look forward to coming home from work and relaxing in my recliner. I actually fantasize about that scenario come 2:00 pm. I have the same routine, pick up Macy from the sitter, get her a snack, throw on my pajama bottoms, and kick back in the lazy boy. Its the simple things in life right? Wrong!

I have a nine-year-old daughter who turns my personal oasis into a nightmare...like the one on elm street. Within ten minutes of being home, she's got her music cracked up and the family room above me becomes her personal dance studio. So instead of relaxing in the recliner and taking a nap, its a fight to keep the pictures on the wall and pray that Macy doesn't come flying through the ceiling panels above me.

Macy loves to dance. I mean LOVES to dance. She's been dancing since she was three and singing since she was able to speak. Macy's an entertainer. Both her mom and I have been in the entertainment business for many years (Tracy an accomplished dancer herself, dance team coach, award-winning choreographer, and at one point a dancer for an arena football team in Des Moines) and yours truly toured the globe with pop superstars and co-wrote Billboard Adult Contemporary hits for the likes of Jordan Knight. Yes, I just named dropped.

I caught her this afternoon in one of her many family room performances. Her actual audience a dog and cat, in her mind, she was opening for 1D on their current stadium tour. She cued the song on her Kindle, took a deep breath, and performed her original piece. Today's selection was the new single from Little Mix called "Black Magic." Yesterday it was "Drive" from Kat Perkins (on repeat at least nine times) and the day before it was a 1D marathon (she was getting herself ready for their actual stop in Minneapolis over the weekend).

I like to tease her and get her going (that's just me), but in reality I'm extremely proud. She takes dance very seriously. Macy takes classes at Ms. Melinda's Dance Studio in Waite Park. She loves being apart of the competition team, and getting the opportunity to perform across the state of Minnesota. Just like her mom, she's now an award-winning dancer with a very promising future.

I'm a dance dad, and very proud of it! We have a ton of gifted and talented dancers right here in central Minnesota. The dance community locally is amazing. We love our "dance family" and look forward to many more years of being involved. Please show your support to the many wonderful studios, schools and recreation programs in the area.

I guess at the end of the day, I'll have to put up with the many sounds coming from the upstairs family room. Its the sounds I'll miss some day, and the sounds that prepare Ms. Macy for her next adventure in life. As my wife would say..."Let them be little!"
